HEY, UNIVERSE, ARE YOU IGNORING ME?
March 4, 2008
Where do you look when you lose your way? What happens when you’ve Trusted. Relaxed. Expected. You’ve stayed positive. You sincerely believed there would be a result for all your efforts. You would have gladly accepted any result, not necessarily the one you had in mind when you set out.
If solutions came too quickly
In the past (and in the present), there have been times when I have felt lost and unsure of myself. I remember feelings of frustration at not seeing the answer clearly and immediately before me. Looking back on these times, I realize that I was simply not ready for these answers. I lacked the maturity or the wisdom to deal with the situation in what would eventually turn out to be the best way. If I’d been handed the solution earlier, it would either have been mishandled or altogether unrecognized.
I believe all my answers are already within me, like layers being peeled away to reveal the deeper one, like the skin of an onion. You can look at your 12 yr old child and see that all that they are today has always been there, just not ready to be exposed yet, as though it would be harmed if it were brought to light too soon. Your answers are right now with you and in you, but the switch that lets you use them hasn’t been turned on.
In need of good fortune
Lest I float away on a cloud of enlightenment, could there also be the element of luck here? I’m not so convinced that we are 100% in control of our failure or success. Certainly, we control how we react to the events that come into our lives, but chance plays a part. I mean, sometimes, could not some little great thing just happen to tell you you’re on the right path?
You took actions. You put yourself out there. You stepped outside your comfort zone and tried to grow. You waited for any signal that the Universe had heard your declaration of intention. You visualized your answers being aimed your way, like when all the satellite dishes begin to turn in the same direction in a James Bond movie, just before they fire the Rocket-That-Will-End-It-All. One little quirky signal that the Universe has you tuned in would help so much.
See the future you want
John Wesley at PickTheBrain wrote a few days ago about having a vision and quotes from The E-Myth Revisited. Why Most Small Businesses Don’t Work And What To Do About It by Michael Gerber.
He says :
I believe it’s true that the difference between great people and everyone else is that great people create their lives actively, while everyone else is created by their lives, passively waiting to see where life takes them next.
The difference between the two is living intentionally and living by accident.
He concludes that once you begin living with intention, the life you desire begins to fall into place.
Well… WHEN???
Will I need to be 70 before it happens? I try my best to practice patience and thankfulness on a daily basis. Being grateful for not taking 2 steps backwards is not the same as taking 1 step forwards.
I’m not asking for money, I’m asking for opportunities. My eyes are open; I am ready to jump as soon as I see something on the horizon. I am keeping an open mind and I know that it may not come in a familiar shape.
Quite frankly, the only thing that would hold me back, should an out-in-left-field opportunity present itself, is the fact that my kids are still young. I tell myself that this is why I sit here waiting. I tell myself that the possibility that is headed my way will be a huge deviation from my present life. I am getting myself ready (but would like to say again that a small stroke of luck would be welcomed).
When a vision is not enough
Ultimately, what keeps you going is the discovery that you love the topic and you love the process. This is the realization will feed your fire better than any other reward. Read and believe all the self-discovery books you like. If, at the end of day, you cannot believe those words, move on. Find a new topic.
Just as it is at Hogwart’s School of Witchcraft and Wizardry (from Harry Potter), I believe these words : If you need help, ask and you will get it. The guidance you need will appear. You have to be a little alert because it doesn’t always appear with a flag to get your attention. The circumstance around its appearance may be very different than what you expected.
Things happen when they’re supposed to, though I can only ever admit that in retrospect. I have to re-learn it every time. I tell myself to lighten up while I wait and get my foot off the gas pedal. The more relaxed you are (because you are so sure that your request will be granted), the sooner it comes.
So I’m taking my own advice and going to have a lavender bath with Book 2 of the Golden Compass trilogy, The Subtle Knife.
And if some chocolate appears in the bathroom, I will have to deal with it.
